My Favorite Dance Practice Outfits

One of the millions of reasons I’m obsessed with Kpop is the fashion. Even when they’re practicing, the outfits rival stage ensembles. So, today I’m sharing  5 of my favorite dance practice outfits. Please keep in mind that these are in no particular order and there’s certainly many more than five, but we’d be here all night if I went through all of them. Also, appreciate my screenshotting skills because I tried hard for you guys.

Jungkook – 뱁새 (Baepsae/Silver Spoon)

JK_Baepsae

Perfection in fabric, that’s what this outfit is. The cut of the jeans is quite unexpected in a world of skinny jeans. The white button down riffs on that classic work-wear silhouette but looks breezier. And JK’s beloved Timbs truly pull together the look.

Minghao (The8) – Crazy in Love

I’m not always a fan of extremely long t-shirts like this one, but Minghao makes it work. The proportions are balanced because of his fitted joggers, and while I’m not a huge fan of his socks being pulled up so far, it does keep the look more streamlined. Unfortunately, I can’t for the life of me, find this shirt. I’m in love with the way it looks and wanted to see the smaller print of what it says. So, if you happen to find some details, let me know in the comments!

Lucas – Boss

Lucas_Boss

I almost did TY’s outfit from Boss, and while it is sensational, Lucas’ outfit really draws me. It’s simple: a white long-sleeve, black jeans, gold chain, and Adidas, but it’s styled so expertly. The top is tucked into the jeans and the jeans are belted, the gold chain is an excellent touch and the shoes tie in the sleek black and white color palette.

Sehun – The Eve

Sehun_TheEve

Again, while simple, this outfit makes a big impact. The wash of the jeans are that perfect medium denim and offer nice contrast to the black hat, tee, and shoes.

Jin – Blood Sweat & Tears

Jin_BS&T

Black on black looks *NCT plays in the background* are a staple in dance practices but Jin brings it to another level. Although it’s a button-down, the shirt doesn’t have a stiff quality, but rather hangs perfectly relaxed. Because this look is so sleek, I appreciate the minimalism of the one hole in the black jeans. Also, it looks like his shoes are suede, which brings in an unexpected texture. This outfit contrasts amazingly with Jin’s pink hair…it’s just a whole look.

Let me know what your favorite dance practice fits are!

Favorite Albums of 2018 (So Far)

record

In which I fulfill my dream of being a music writer, and share my favorite albums of 2018’s first half in no particular order…

Positive

Artist: Pentagon

Genres: Kpop; Khip-hop

Release Date: April 2

Favorite Tracks: Do it for Fun; Shine; Off-Road

In the past, I’ve never been able to fall in love with Pentagon’s B-side tracks, and thus the rest of their albums. Although their title tracks always stand out I’ve been underwhelmed by the rest of the songs. Positive changed that. Each and every song on this album is magical, from the infectious and high-energy Shine, to the gritty hip-hop line’s Do it for Fun, to the acoustic choir infused Let’s Do it Together and every track in between. It’s an all around good-feeling album that explores a plethora of different sounds.

The Kids Are Alright

Artist: Chloe X Halle

Genres: R&B; Indie

Release Date: March 23

Favorite Tracks: Happy Without Me; Baby on a Plane; Fake

I’ve been a fan of this sister duo since they were doing covers on YouTube. Now that they’ve released an EP, mixtape, and now full-length studio album under Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment, I can say I’m still a fan. We are graced with Chloe’s melodiously deep alto and Halle’s piercingly bright soprano that compliment each other so well. The Kids Are Alright is an album that’s decidedly Generation Z. Rather than fitting into the mold of traditional R&B, it dips into Indie, Hip-Hop, and even Rock at some points. Lyrically, Chloe x Halle exemplify our upcoming generation with lyrics that moan about a broken society but ultimately believe that “there are still cool people in the world”.

Blooming Days

Artist: EXO-CBX

Genres: Kpop; Kr&b

Release Date: April 10

Favorite Tracks: Sweet Dreams; Thursday; Blooming Day

Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin have been a dynamic trio since the beginning of EXO’s first sub-unit. Blooming Days, however, really drives home just how much musical chemistry they have. The album’s days-of-the-week concept is fresh without feeling contrived and the decidedly R&B direction feels just right for this sub-unit. There are slow melancholy tracks like Monday, sweet laid back tracks like Playdate, and of course those classic EXO flirty numbers like Blooming Day and Vroom Vroom. Each member gets to shine in his own unique way and we get a front-row seat to see who EXO-CBX truly is.

Lost & Found

Artist: Jorja Smith

Genres: R&B; Soul

Release Date: June 8

Favorite Tracks: Teenage Fantasy; Blue Lights; Don’t Watch Me Cry

When I first heard Jorja Smith’s voice I was instantly hooked on her deep soulful tone. Her music reminded me of Adele’s: longing, mournful, and tinged with heartbreak. But it was charged with wokeness and social commentary. Lost & Found continues in that vein. But not only do we hear her beautiful tones we hear expert lyricism especially in her Lifeboats Freestyle. Each track is unique in it’s lyrics and music but they paint a cohesive picture because of the longing that is evident in each. Longing for lost love, satisfying truth, and a just world.

Love Yourself Tear

Artist: BTS

Genres: Kpop; Kr&b; Khip-hop

Release Date: May 18

Favorite Tracks: The Truth Untold; Paradise; Anpanman

In this 3rd studio album from BTS we get the best elements of the first two: that hip-hop aggression of Dark & Wild, and that introspective longing of Wings. This album shows the growth of BTS while still staying within that beautiful “Bangtan style”. This is exemplified subtly in how Suga whispers his name before his verses, how the intro track is completely in Korean, and how we have past and current songs connected like Attack on Bangtan and Anpanman. Although this release isn’t a concept album, it still stays committed to it’s theme of exploring the dark side of love. Thus, the album is decidedly darker in tone than Love Yourself: Her, with more of an R&B leaning. It explores Latin pop sounds in Airplane pt. 2, a tasteful use of autotune in Outro: Tear, and bumping electronic beats in Paradise. Tear also provides a space for every single member to shine, I definitely hear the vocalists’ growth in conveying emotion, and the rappers’ growth in embracing and honing their distinct style. Lyrically, BTS uses inspiration from folklore, fairytales, and personal experiences to craft a world in which we can loose ourselves.

This or That {Book Edition}

img_2766-1

Hello guys! I was checking my email when I saw this post by Paper Fury and since hers was so good, I decided to jump in. So, here are my picks for these Bookish This or That Tag questions.

1. SERIES OR STANDALONE

Standalone. When I was younger I used to be obsessed with series, but now ya girl has too many things to do to finish a series. Exhibit A: I’ve only read the first Harry Potter book.

2. MAGIC EARNED OR MAGIC BORN

I think I prefer magic born because they have to live with it and figure it out, which causes some interesting plot situations.

3. ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS OR FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS

I actually like somewhere in-between but I guess I’ll choose friends-to-lovers.

4. HILARIOUS BANTER OR EMOTIONAL RUIN

Emotional ruin because I like to die when I read books…

5. LOVE TRIANGLE OR INSTA LOVE

Love triangle! Insta love is irritating to me but I love a good love triangle to divide the fandom.

6. KEYBOARD-SMASH FANTASY NAMES OR ALL NAMES START WITH SAME LETTER

Fantasy names, it makes the book more interesting and more memorable.

7. MEAN PARENTS OR DEAD PARENTS

Dead parents because pain again and also mean parents are usually written in an unrealistically annoying way to me.

8. SUPERMODEL LOOKS OR CONSTANTLY SAYS HOW “PLAIN” THEY ARE

Neither. But since I must choose…supermodel looks because the “plain jane” trope is overused.

9. FACE ON COVER VS TYPOGRAPHY ON COVER

TYPOGRAPHY!!! I absolutely cannot stand a model’s face on the cover of a book aghhhh!

10. VILLAIN TURNING A LITTLE GOOD OR HERO TURNING A LITTLE BAD

Hero turning a little bad. I like blurred lines and it’s interesting when you have to ask whether your heroes are actually “good” anyway.

I hope you enjoyed this random little tag, feel free to tell me some of your picks in the comments.

RTW Fall ’18 Wishlist

I know I’m late, but I’ve finally caught up (ish) on the Fall 2018 Ready to Wear coverage. It was a solid season: of the brands I check for first I was a bit disappointed with Yohji Yamamoto and Chanel, but I was in love with Versace and Off-White.

As I perused the collections I was struck by how many of the pieces were wearable and how many I wanted to own. Here are five pieces that are on my “wishlist” from this season.

Undercover Sweatshirt

Grey sweatshirts will always hold a special place in my heart and the addition of the graphic is amazing. I love the “Total Youth” message and the silhouette is super breezy.

Marine Serre Raincoat

Red is a trendy color that seems to be sticking around. I don’t own many red pieces and most of them ironically are coats. I love loud raincoats and the sheerness of this one is really intriguing.

Sacai Top

The structure contrasted with the slouch of this top is beautiful. The sheer sleeves are a lovely detail and the whole vibe of this piece is just amazing. I’d wear this in a heartbeat with a black pencil skirt or light-wash denim.

Tosia Set

As a firm believer in nightwear for daytime, I was in love with Tosia’s collection this year. This blue pajama-like set is a dream: the tailoring, subtle print, and tie detail make for a stunning look. I would wear this so often it’s not funny.

Tabula Rasa Dress

Aside from Off-White, Tabula Rasa was my favorite collection this season. The soft angelic knitwear is completely up my alley. Although I want most of the pieces in this collection I choose this dress because the silhouette is so flattering, and those who know me can attest that I have a thing for the color blush. I also adore the styling of this with the sandals and socks in luxe tones.

What did you think of my wishlist? Did you like this season’s looks?

Quotes from the Commonplace

A commonplace journal is a book where one writes quotes, sayings, or words that catch their fancy. Today I’ll be sharing a couple of my favorite book quotes that are in my commonplace journal.

“It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.” -Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

“Living by answers is a form of death. It’s only the questions that keep you living.” -Crispin the Cross of Lead

“Be suspicious of history that is written by the conquerors.” -Dead End in Norvelt

“A loss is inevitable, like snow in winter. True champions learn to dance through the storm.” –The Crossover

“It’ll be done when America at last defines itself by what she sees in her collective mirrors and not by what she sees in her imagined world of snow-white angels floating among the clouds of our lofty ideals. Until then, we’ll all be in the streets looking for where we belong.” -Riot

My New Love

I’m back (for now) with some big news…

I have found the love of my life. Yes, I know I’m young, but true love has no age. I fell head over heels on the very first day, and my life has never been the same. Let me introduce you to my soul mate…

Look at thaaaaaat!
Gluten Free Pizza Crust! But not any gluten free pizza crust, oh no. The most crispy, thin, chewy, and flavorful gluten free pizza crust. It’s addicting and healthy. Its better than the gluten free crusts I’ve had at pizza places and better yet, it only has four ingredients.
So, where did I find this magical pizza crust? I’m glad you asked. The answer is the blog Wholesome Yum, which specializes in easy, yummy, and healthy meals. Check it out right here, and bake it immediately. I promise it will change your life.

Flavors of Fall

Today is the first day of fall! And with the cooling weather and changing trees comes a host of new flavors. The warm spices that come with the season are some of my personal favorites.

Pumpkin

Everyone always freaks out about Starbucks PSL. I’m actually not a big fan of that drink, but I can’t get enough of pumpkin. I’m hoping to add some pumpkin puree to cinnamon rolls soon, but for now these Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins are my pumpkin fix.

Cinnamon

I eat cinnamon all year round, and can be found adding two or three times the measurement in recipes. There’s just something magical about the spicy element cinnamon adds to baked goods. I have a full arsenal of recipes featuring cinnamon: Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts, Cinnamon Apple Maple Quinoa, Cinnamon Rolls, Cinnamon Roll Muffins, try them allllllllll.

Maple

One of my favorite cakes to bake from September through December is Martha Strwart’s Maple Cake. It’s a family favorite and one the members of my church also love. This cake is a dream, warning though: it’s addictive.

Apple

Hopefully I’ll be able to pick apples sometime and make some pie. But for now I make these Apple Pie Muffins, they’re tasty but easier than pie. (See what I did there) Plus they’re paleo! I also love this Apple and Peanut Butter Quinoa Recipe.

What are your favorite fall flavors?
